Entry tips:

  1. Judges will want to know how your product, technology, initiative or management approach has made a difference, so explain what it was like before you had the great idea.
  2. Include supporting material that is clearly linked to the points you are making in the entry, and which specifically shows measurable improvement such as statistics, examples, diagrams, testimonials etc.
  3. Measurable evidence - the facts and figures - showing the benefits of your entry is best provided in simple tables and graphs. Don't forget to show "before" and "after".
  4. When describing the technology/initiative, try to avoid jargon and spell out acronyms.
  5. If your company has several initiatives that qualify under one category, Health & Safety for instance, it is advisable to either enter all as one campaign or just concentrate on one.
  6. Supporting material should be clearly identified and could include photographs, press clippings, awards/certificates, brochures/leaflets, product samples but don't overload the judges! Only include material that is essential to the entry.
  7. Address all the criteria set out under each Award.
  8. Make sure you complete all sections of the entry form.
  9. Most importantly, KEEP IT SIMPLE

The judging process

The winners of the Water Industry Achievement Awards are chosen by experts drawn from the industry. The judges are chosen because they know the difference between what is common in the industry and what is truly outstanding, and deserves to be rewarded.

There are two panels of judges - one weighs up the merits of entries for the Most Innovative New Technology of the Year and Most Innovative Use of an Existing Technology categories, while the other scrutinises all the other categories.

Entries are read thoroughly by the judges who then fill in a form to get a shortlist of entries for each category. The judging panel will then discuss the shortlisted entries and then fill in a form outlining their first, second and third choice before a winner is chosen.

The four shortlisted entries from each of the Most Innovative New Technology of the Year and Most Innovative Use of an Existing Technology categories will be required to give a presentation to the judging panel. This panel will also fill in a form outlining its first, second, third and fourth choice before a winner for each of the two categories is chosen.

With the Outstanding Innovation 2012 category, all the judges discuss the winning entries from each categories (excluding Outstanding Individual Contribution to the Water Industry) to establish an outright Water Industry Achievement Awards winner.
